Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 8, 2026

Hi — I’m Jonathon Gleason (“Jongle”), and jongle.me is my personal site. I run it myself, on my own server, out of Tampa, Florida. This page explains what happens to data when you visit, in plain language.

I’m always building and adding new tools and apps here, so this policy describes how I handle data as a rule, and then lists what each current tool actually does. New features follow the same rules, and I’ll update this page when something genuinely new comes along.

The short version

  • I don’t sell your data, and I don’t share it except with the services that make the site and its tools work (listed below).
  • Most of what’s “stored” lives on your own device, in cookies and browser storage — not on my server.
  • Some tools save data on my server, but only what that tool needs. For example, a share code (like a bracket group or a music pack) has to be stored so the link works when you send it to a friend.
  • Where I need to tell visitors apart (mostly to stop spam), I store a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address (a “salted hash”), not the address itself.
  • You may see ads. They’re served by Google, and Google — not me — decides which ads you see.

Information you give me

Contact form. If you use the form on my contact page, I get what you type in — typically your name, email address, and message. Submissions are emailed to me and kept in the site’s database so I can reply. I only use them to get back to you. The form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA and Akismet (see below).

Problem reports. Some tools have a “Report a problem” form. It sends your message and, only if you add them, an email address so I can follow up and a screenshot. Some reports offer a checkbox to include technical details (things like your browser, screen size, the app’s settings, and the approximate city you’re browsing from) to help me fix bugs. Reports are visible only to me in the site’s admin area.

Comments. If you leave a comment, WordPress stores your name, email, website (if given), the comment, and your IP address to manage spam. Akismet checks comments for spam.

Information collected automatically

Server logs. Like nearly every website, my web server records basic request information — IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time — for security and troubleshooting. These logs stay on my server.

Cookies and browser storage. jongle.me uses cookies and local storage for basic things: keeping the site working, remembering your preferences and progress in tools, and logging in (for me as the admin). Most of this never leaves your browser. You can clear or block cookies anytime in your browser settings — a few conveniences may stop working, but the site will still run.

Analytics. I use three kinds of visitor stats to see how many people visit and which pages are popular:

  • Google Analytics (through Google Site Kit), which uses cookies and is run by Google under its own privacy policy.
  • WP Statistics, which runs on my own server. It anonymizes and hashes IP addresses, doesn’t store your full browser details, and respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting.
  • Jetpack Stats, run by Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com).

I look at these as totals to decide what to work on next — not to identify you.

Security. To protect the site from attacks and spam, I use Jetpack’s security features (firewall and brute-force login protection), Google reCAPTCHA on forms, and Akismet spam filtering. These services may check your IP address and browser details against their threat data. An activity log records actions taken by people logged in to the site (that’s just me).

Tools and apps on the site

Here’s what the current tools do with data. Anything not listed here stays in your browser.

Share codes (all tools). When a tool lets you share something by link or code, what you shared is stored on my server under that code so the link works. Anyone with the code can see what’s behind it, so don’t put anything private in something you share.

MusicMap

  • Location: MusicMap can use your device’s location, only if you allow it in your browser, to pick music for where you are. It isn’t stored on my server. When it looks up artists from around you, it rounds your location to roughly a 10 km (6 mile) area first. Place names come from OpenStreetMap.
  • Music packs: a shared pack is stored with a hashed IP (to limit spam) and is deleted automatically after one year.
  • Music services: MusicMap plays music through services like YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music, and internet radio stations. When a player loads, that service may set its own cookies and sees your IP address, under its own privacy policy.
  • Spotify and Apple Music sign-in: if you connect your account, sign-in happens directly between your browser and that service. My server never sees your password or your account tokens.

Bracket Forge (brackets and tournaments)

  • Saves the group name, the player names you type in, and tournament progress under a share code, so everyone with the code can follow along. Use nicknames if you’d rather not use real names.
  • Can show member names from a Discord server that’s been set up to work with it.

License Plate feedback tool

  • Stores the plate, state/country, and your vote, plus a hashed IP and a browser session code so you can only vote once and can remove your own reports.
  • To pre-fill your country and state, it looks up the approximate location of your IP address with ipapi.co.
  • Removal requests store the reason you give and, if you provide one, an email address so I can reply.

Embedded content from other sites

Some pages include content from other sites — YouTube and Twitch videos, Google Photos albums, SoundCloud, Spotify, map tiles from OpenStreetMap, Google Fonts, and links to Discord, Steam, and Reddit. Embedded content behaves as if you visited that site directly: it can see your IP address, set cookies, and track your interaction with it, under that company’s privacy policy.

Advertising

jongle.me shows ads through Google AdSense. Here’s what that means for you:

Who else handles data

I don’t sell or trade your data. The only outside parties involved are the services described above: Google (Analytics, AdSense, reCAPTCHA, Fonts, YouTube), Automattic (Jetpack, Jetpack Stats, Akismet, and site backups), ipapi.co, OpenStreetMap, and the music and video services you choose to play. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job, handles it under its own privacy terms, and never gets it for me to sell.

I may also disclose data if the law requires it (such as a valid legal request), or to protect the site’s safety and security.

How long I keep things

  • Music packs: deleted automatically after one year.
  • Other share codes and tool data: kept while the tool needs them; I clear out old ones from time to time.
  • Spam-prevention records: short-lived, typically an hour.
  • Contact messages and problem reports: kept until I’ve dealt with them, then deleted when no longer needed.
  • Backups: the site is backed up regularly, so deleted data can remain in backups for a limited time until they’re replaced.

Your choices

  • Cookies: clear or block them in your browser anytime.
  • Location: MusicMap only uses it if you allow it, and you can turn it off in your browser settings anytime.
  • Ads: use the Google and AboutAds links above to opt out of personalized ads.
  • Do Not Track: WP Statistics respects it, and I don’t build a cross-site profile of you either way.
  • Access or deletion: contact me and I’ll remove data tied to you or to a share code you made, as far as I’m able.

Children

jongle.me isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent me information, contact me and I’ll delete it.

Security

I take reasonable steps to protect the site and any data it holds — HTTPS everywhere, a firewall, spam filtering, and hashed IP addresses — but no website can promise perfect security. Please don’t send me anything sensitive (passwords, financial details) through the contact form.

Changes to this policy

If I change how the site handles data, I’ll update this page and move the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be noted on the page.
